Please bear with me. I hope you can bring up the BarbosTheBand.org website on your smart phone or tablet. Find the music page and then click on the A Cappella linkĀ  so you can follow along and participate.

Our aim is to entertain with song while offering up some tributes to some our lost heros and providing some historical context.

Ready? Here we go!

I am Peppy Doggett, ISB Class of 1968.

I graduated from ISB in Bangkok in 1968

Then I was off to college.

Seven years of college and look at me now!

AndĀ  I would just like to say

My Conviction (Click on it! Then come back to this page)

That was from the musical Hair which debuted in 1967. There is a line in the libretto that goes like this:

“What the hell you got 1968 that makes you so damn superior ”

Well, there’s Bonnie.

And there’s Charlie

Greg

Hal

Mark and Mark

Mike

Mikki

Paula

Peggy

Sherri

Suzanne

Terry

Tony

And they’re just the ones that are here today!

Many of us were at the ISB Network reunion in San Diego, 2008 which coincided with the 40th anniversary of the Class of 1968 graduation. At that event we adopted this Beatles song as our class theme song.

At this time I would like to introduce the Barbos Bums. They are going to provide the base line rhythms. Make some noise to welcome x y and z.

And for background vocals we have the Singha Singers. Please welcome a b and c.

Great! Now we are all set!

For the next song here is a little background. A number of us came over to ISB in early 1965 from the American Community School of Saigon Vietnam as a result of the evacuation due to hostilities there. Raise your hand if you were one…

Wow! Look how many.

My brother Larry, Barbara, Tony, me…

I remember the number of evacuees enrolling in the high-school classes was something like 57 students.

One of the evacuees was my best friend in those days, Roger Brady. Sadly,Ā  he is no longer with us. I am told that a one of the late 1990s network reunions a speaker asked the assembled alumni if any of the women had “dated” Roger. An extraordinary number of hands went up.

He and I enjoyed singing this song. So in tribute to Roger Brady here is

Louie Louie

Well that was fun!

Oh those high-school daze and the high-school bands. One that we enjoyed listening and dancing to long before Barbos The Band came along was the Sonics, comprised of Don Washburn, Carl Layton, Kenny Warren and Chris Curtis (later replaced by Roger Brady). Kenny Warren also passed some years ago. In tribute here is a song he sang for us:

Wild Thing

I too was in a high-school band for a short time. We couldn’t come up with a name so we called ourselvesĀ  “the Emanons”… or if you will, “the No Names”.Ā  Pretty silly. I played a white Hofner bass guitar like Paul McCartney. Paul Barb was on lead guitar, and on vocals we had none other than our beloved dearly departed super hero Bob March. And here is one of his favorites:

Gloria

Thank you Bob March!

Moving on I want to sing about how I hope all of you are feeling today. It’s a song by Cream, chosen for its groovy bass line.

I Feel Free

We spoke of the Sonics a few minutes ago.Ā  They were tapped to back up one Louis Kennedy who sang this song which they recorded…Ā  Louise Kennedy later was a contestant on the American TV show “To Tell The Truth” on which she was backed up by a different. There are several YouTube videos of these versions easily found on the internet.Ā  Here now is our own abbreviated version.

Pu Yai Lee

And that ends the Barbos The Band A Cappella show. We do hope you enjoyed it!
